Contact KMART CORPORATION REPORTS 4.3% SAME-STORE SALES INCREASE FOR JANUARY TROY, Michigan, February 8, 2001 -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) reports for the four-week period ended January 24, 2001 net sales increase of 4.3% on a same-store basis. For the 13 weeks ended January 24, 2001 same-store sales increased 2.1%. Net sales were $11.133 billion, up 0.3% from $11.105 billion the same period last year. For the 52 weeks ended January 24, 2001 same-store sales increased 1.1%. Net sales were $36.525 billion, up 1.7% from $35.925 billion the same period last year. ''We continue to make progress on our three strategic imperatives: world-class execution, customer-centric culture and differentiated market position,'' said Chuck Conaway, Chairman and CEO of Kmart. "January marks our third consecutive month of strong positive gains in same-store sales, customer count, guest in-stock position and a substantial increase in customer service.''
