Contact KMART CORPORATION REPORTS 3.3% SAME-STORE SALES INCREASE FOR FEBRUARY Troy, Michigan, March 8, 2001 -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) reports for the four-week period ended February 28, 2001 a net sales increase of 3.3% on a same-store basis. Total net sales were $2.447 billion, up 1.4% from $2.413 billion for the same period last year. ''February marks our fourth consecutive month of strong same-store sales as we are closing the gap with our competition,'' said Chuck Conaway, Chairman and CEO of Kmart. ''We continue to make these gains by increasing customer satisfaction and, in turn, converting customer traffic into transactions which reinforces our continual focus on world-class execution and customer service.''
