KMART ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE RESIGNATION

TROY, Mich., April 24, 2001 - Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) ) today announced that Chief Marketing Officer Brent Willis has decided to leave Kmart for personal reasons effective May 7. With his departure the marketing and advertising departments will report to Mark Schwartz, Kmart President and COO.

"We understand and respect Brent's decision to put his family first and are thankful for his many contributions to Kmart. We wish him well in his new endeavors," said Chuck Conaway, Kmart Chairman and CEO.
